This Is Our Backyard

If you were to ask Mommy, she’d tell you that there are indeed some downsides to living out in the boonies. For example, the human things she likes are all a decent drive away. Which is a good thing for me because it means I get to go on longer drives with Mommy. I think that’s what Mommy minds the most, the drive. Places she likes are far away. But I can’t help but be glad to live out here. I think Mommy agrees too.

So what are the good things about living in the boonies? Just take a look at our backyard. Yes sir, that’s our backyard there. Tall elm, peach, plum, pecan, and even pistachio trees to climb. Although the pistachio tree isn’t as tall or full as the others.

A beautiful field of wildflowers to run around in to boot. There’s always adventures to be had there. Bugs to nibble on, rodents to pounce (if we can find ‘em), and butterflies to chase. Not to mention the pretty birdies too.

This side of the treeline always has more of those poofy things you blow on that send white things flying. Those are fun to play with. Plus since the trees overlap here more and provide more shade, it’s almost like a jungle here. The ground stays moist and lots of different green stuff grows on this side.

Now if only I could convince Mommy to let me play outside more. That would be the absolute best! Who wants to find moving companies Los Angeles or other big crowded places like that? Not me!

Oh Noes! They are Stealing my Cotton!

I was outside earlier when all of a suddens there was a lot of noise coming from the field behind the house. I ran over there to see what was going on and spied a horrible sight!

Green machines stealing my fluffy cotton!

I ran back to the house and started batting at the window to get mommy’s attention and eventually I got her to come outside and follows me to the back so she could stop them. Do you know what she said?! She just pat me on the head and said “They’re just picking the cotton now so they can rest on Thanksgiving, Denali. It’s nothing to worry about.”

I know they’re picking the cotton, I don’t want them to. So it is something to worry about. They’re stealing my fluffy white playground and mommy won’t do anything about it.

I tried to run out to stop thems myself, but mommy wouldn’t let me and took me inside. She had to get ready for work and didn’t have time to keep an eye on me she said, but that doesn’t make much sense since after she left she came right back!

Mommy explained that farmers plant those fields of cotton so that they grows it and pick it to use to make clothes, bedding, and toys, for humans and kittehs. She even showed me my favorite bunny and explained it was made out of cotton.

So I guess some good came from this, but I wish they would have torn up another cotton field and not mine.

Cotton Field Fun

I’m glad I’m not a city-cat, I’d feel so trapped and constrained if I had to spend all my time indoors or limited to a small yard. Here we have a big yard, mommy says it consists of “acres” and there are fields, ditches, and canals to play in too. I’m not supposed to leave teh property unless mommy or grandma are with me, and I’m pretty good about it too. I never cross the road.

Sometimes I do like wandering into the field right behind the house. Right now there is cotton there. Big fluffy white poofs suspended on branches – lots of fun!

I had fun rolling around in the dirt and bopping the cotton. I even swiped a few pieces to pounce on later. But just when I was really having fun mommy came home. Early. Almost got busted.
